How A Framed Art Set Can Expand
your Living Space

Whether you're planning to purchase a framed art set or a single piece of framed wall art, knowing how to choose the right pieces for your home or office requires thought as well as careful planning to make sure that you are spending your money wisely and getting the right look and feel.

If you're planning on decorating an office, you'll need to think about the mood you want to create. Is your office contemporary? Do you want to create a dramatic affect with some thought provoking motivational poster sets or do you want the art to blend with other art and furnishings for a more traditional look?

Interior decorators like to select a frame for a piece of art based on how it enhances the art itself and how it coordinates with the surrounding décor, space and furnishings in a room. The style, color and materials of the frame impact the look and feel of the art as well as adding to the style and mood of the entire room.

Most people hang framed wall art simply because they think it looks nice.  But, a framed art set can also be used creatively to add width, depth or height to a room.  In addition, framed pictures absorb noise, preventing that “echo” that you get in a bare-walled room.

Here are some decorator tips for your bare walls:

Narrow rooms, such as those you will find in a dormitory, can be challenging.  First, there is the chore of selecting furniture.  In any small room, it is important to minimize the amount of furniture.  Too many furnishings will make the room look crowded and even smaller than it actually is. A good rule of thumb is to choose light colored wallpaper and paint for the walls and ceilings and darker colors for the floors to create a feeling of space.

Choose framed wall art with bright colors, such as yellow sunflowers.  Framed pictures that are rectangular in shape can give height or width to a room.  If the frame is taller than it is wide, it will add height.  If it is wider than it is tall, it will add widthframed fern prints.

A framed art set can be arranged in a rectangular manner to achieve the same effect.  One above the other adds height.  One beside the other adds width.

Can the framed wall art be too large for the room?  Yes, but only if the colors are predominantly dark or the frames are dark and overly large.  Thin black frames, on the other hand, draw attention to the framed pictures, without being overpowering.

A framed art set can be used in combination with decorative mirrors to add an illusion of space to any room.  Strategically placing the mirrors directly across from the artwork adds width and interest.  The same technique can be used to lighten a dark room with only one small window.  Any artwork that has a great deal of yellow or orange will add brightness to the room.

Some paintings have an almost three-dimensional look which adds depth to any wall.  For example, a photo of a straight road going off into the distance will make the room look longer.  Vincent Van Gogh’s “Rooftops” creates that same illusion of depth.Van Goghs Paris Rooftops

You can also use framed pictures to set the mood or tie in with the purpose of a room.

For example, for a bedroom a pair of framed botanical prints could coordinate with a comforter or an area rug and a framed art set of colorful roosters might fit very well into a country kitchen. A framed canvas landscape or a still life may be perfect for your living room or dining room wall and a framed pair of star wars posters would be ideal for that  blue wall in your little boy’s room.

There are no rules when it comes to choosing a frame but there are some definite guidelines that will help you with your choices. For example, color and style are very important. Look for elements in the image that are repeated in the frame, both in color and style. This is a classic approach and will always work in every space.
